jackie, im not sure which cooker yours is but ive just changed a the element in my built in belling xou482. it was a doddle! the cooker was working fine till the cooker suddenly stopped heating up. belling told me i had to call an engineer out to diagnose/ fix the problem at £80 callout + parts. My appliance insurance had lapsed but they still offered to fix it for £140. I used this website to gain the reasurance that is was only the element. i then looked at various other answers that lead to some helpful other sites. in my case all i had to do was unscrew the cooker lamp glass cover and remove it, then use a scewdriver to take screws out of each corner of the oven back plate, and remove that to expose the element (which was clearly split) then there was just one central screw and a clip holding the element in. remove them and gently pull off the elecric spade connections (TURN OFF POWER FIRST!) then refit the new element in reverse. It took 5 minutes! I used APART4U to order a new element (about £20) which came next day. I belive floor standing ovens might be a bit harder a you may need to pull them out to acess the back but in any case, do a bit of research and save hassle and pounds! good look. (ps, contrary to what belling told me it appears a blown element is THE most common fault in any cooker so im sure you can do it! )
