What is causing the noise?

I have a old renault clio 1.2 petrol - I have noticed it started making a constant humming/growling noise on top of the usual engine sound. I only noticed this when doing over 50mph but now this seems to be progressing into occuring at all speeds? I havent noticed any real loss in engine power - What are the likely things that could be wrong?

Turned out it was the wheel bearings

Thanks for the info

May be a wheel bearing. To rule out the engine - drive at 50-60 where the noise occurs and press the clutch and let engine tick over. If the noise is still there it's likely to be the wheel bearings.Get it checked out soon.
