My golf mk2 1.6 automatic is eating fuel. A full tank costs me about 45 pounds so roughly 40 litres and i get 280 miles max out of it! The carb was replaced last year. Can anyone suggest anything to look for or suggest how to adjust the carb to maybe cut down on the amount of fuel going into it?

That sounds about Right
I have a 1800 manual and if I drive like the Vicars Wife on Valium I get about 300 miles a Tank

If I drive as I like to I get about 250 Max

Automatics are renowned for their poor MPG

As are Mk2 Golfs especially with the little 1.6 motor

Buy A manual (Car that is) and you will find you have a lot more control over fuel use But dont expect Round the world mileage
