How can i reset my Veritas 8 alarm?

We have moved into a new flat and the code wasnt provided for the alarm. We tried 1234 and it beeped once so we tried 0000 and it started beeping as if it were setting we shut the door and left. Problem is now that when we go into the flat the alarm goes off and neither codes will re-set it. The alarm will ring for 20 minutes or so then stop but as soon as you walk in front of a sensor it goes off again. Any ideas?

Had the power cut at our house, and alarm went off, Back up battery unit had died, so bought a new battery pack. Fitted it and although the system was all working and PIR lighting up when I walked in front of them the alarm wasn't going off.
So did what a previous writer said, and disconnected one terminal from the battery, pressed the spring button in three times. all work fine now.

To The S Man, thanks for your answer to this, been without my alarm for months, tried this technique which worked brilliantly!

just moved in new home told veritas code dint work opened control panel there is 4 wires took the out put 3 back but cant put last one in as the control panel sounds off and there is an indoor speaker i have disconnected . can any one help

Thanks for the info on here, I will do my best to explain the problems I have encountered with my system.
Alarm was in regular use until about 4 years ago with no problems.
Following recent decorating a PIR was refitted to the cornice and I noticed the Red Light within it to be no longer working. I investigated further and found one of the wires to be broken outside of the PIR. I cut these back and refitted but still no Red Light activating.
Panel removed and fuses checked, one had blown so I replaced it and reset the panel also whilst the cover was off.
Alarm now giving Ten Beeps when trying to arm it, Battery was tested and had failed so this was replaced £11 Yuasa on ebay.
Attempted to arm system again and all seemed well but now no external strobe or bell working, fuse replaced.
Hopefully this time problem solved, but no now back to the ten beeps when activating the alarm and Green Light Flashing on the Control Box and Both Keypads.
Mains supply fuse now replaced and system working fine.
Its been a Pain and it has been powered down and powered back up properly each time and reset each time.
Most notable point I would like to make is the Control Panel and Keypads should have a Solid Green Light when the Power Source (Mains and Battery) are ok if you have a Flashing Green Light then you have a Power Source problem.
Hope this helps someone and Yes My hair Is Now Starting To Grow Back.
Regards
Peter

Thanks to someone else who posted this!(Dennis?)

Worked for me after a power cut and I replaced the internal battery as it was corroded.

Remove the lid of the control panel,be prepaired for the sounders to start, dont panic turn off the mains supply to the control panel then remove one of the battery leads. There is a spring in the middle at the top of the circuit board turn on the mains supply and press this spring in and release again ( three times ).Reconnect the battery lead, refit the lid of the panel. The code number is now 4321 enter this number then press reset. You should now be able to use this system now.

Brilliant advice, our alarm sounded when the electricity supply went down! No matter how many times we tried the code would not work! And the alarm kept setting too "full" simply press 4321 "reset" then your individual alarm code "reset" and the system should unset and work again!! Thanks for the help :)

Or just buy a new panel http://www.alertelectrical.com/prod/965/texecom-veritas-r8-burglar-alarm-control-panel?utm_source=google-base&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=google-base-feed and dont have a problem with the engineer code as you set it yourself.

As all connections are exactly the same as the original it shouldnt be hard and setup zones yourself.

Dont forget to remove the fuse from the spur to isolate the unit.

Locking out panels with locked engineers codes is borderline illegal as any sub contractor, employee for the alarm comapny can enter your home and reset your alarm, these companys keep the same codes for years meaning employees have access to hundreads of properties.
Meanwhile the home owner who bought and paid for an electrical item which they cannot use is forced to pay yearly maintenance incase the "resistance" of the cable got worse (lol sorry but as a spark i cant help but laugh at maintenance on alarms, it works or doesnt - simples)

Craig (Spark), September 2011
During carpet removal I managed to cut through a cable and 5 wires inside. It did not seem to affect the system but when I crimped them back together I must have shorted a couple of wires as I`ve now lost power to all PIR`s and the key panel.I`ve checked the connections and all are correct. Is there a fuse in the main panel that could have blown ?

Paul, July 2011
ive just installed a veritas r8 system in my house, but for some reason i cant change the user code so its stuck to 4321, ive followed instructions programming menu 60 enter new code press programme, but its then supposed to chime but instead it makes a dull bleep, any clues? thanks

darren, June 2011
1. Remove the mains power supply and battery.
2. Reconnect the battery and press the tamper spring
3 times. Enter user code 4321.
3. If the battery is duff or almost flat, none of the
above works. It may seem to power up but not
accept a code. (Duff battery) Use a good
battery and you may find that your original code
works after all.

4 Restore the mains power.

A word of warning. If you default the panel to factory setting codes, and the engineer code is locked. Every thing accept the engineer code is reset to default settings. Without the engineer code you can't set up the panel again.

Mark Dell, May 2011
press reset or call an engineer out

alarm engineer widnes, April 2011
switch supply off (mains) to unit open cover and disconnect battery wait a few seconds then re attach battery. unit will bleep the tamper spring at top of cicuit board on veritas 8 press in and out slowly 3 times this will revert panel back to factory settings go to key pad and use code 4321 or 1234 this will silence any alarms at this stage dont press reset put cover back on panel reinstate mains power then press reset panel will work normally you will need to re programme zones and exit/entry times etc but at least it will be treset for now

Sorry, one other thing.

Since we've taken out the battery and power, etc. to cure the power cut problem, will all our zones still be setup as previously? Or will the system need to be redone?

Thanks,

Graham.

Graham, October 2010
Hi,

We've had the problem of the alarm messing up since a power cut (well, the circuit breaker had tripped because of another light failing).

We've ran through the instructions and are at the point of putting the alarm front back on. It's slightly awkward placing this on properly, and when trying to fit it in well, the alarm ends up going off.

What should we do? Do we just need to persist, get it in place whilst the alarm is going off, and then put in the code? Or are we doing something wrong?

Also, one other question. When we press the buttons on the alarm, and when it sets, etc. it is REALLY LOUD! This was installed by the previous owner. Looking in the manual, I believe you can change the level of the internal sounder (I assume it's this doing it) in the engineering menu, but I can't access this as it isn't the default code listed in the instruction manual (unless this has been reset since cutting the power and battery).

I'd really like to make this quieter as it really is ridiculously loud to the point that you worry about really annoying neighbours and can hear it from across the street...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Graham.

Hi,
I have a Veritas 8. One day the alarm went off and we couldn't turn it off, it eventually went off and we could not get the system working again. I called a local alarm man and he said the fuse keeps blowing so I need a new control panel. Whould this be the case or is it something I need to tweek to solve the problem?

Si, October 2009
We are unable to operate our Veritas 8 because the tamper light is always on.

The fault eminates from the bell box after someone tried to open it thinking it was the front door bell box!!!

Would a factory reset cure this problem? The bell box looks ok!

I had the same problem as many people on here my viritas 8 would not reset after the mains power supply to my house failed. when the mains power was restored my alarm would not turn off with my normal code but would continue to sound for approx 15 mins then silence itself but the pirs would detect movement and Then off it went again ! after a few times of this recurring the alarm silenced itself but was still unusable and still would not accept any code.
But I fixed it and this is how!
1. First turn off the power supply to the alarm.
2. Remove the cover to the control panel
3. Remove the battery/ if required fit new if not just disconnect it !My system was around four years old and so I changed the back up battery (12v 2.1ah) from Maplin around £15 (you may get a lot cheaper but I was in a hurry).
4. Turn the power to the control panel back on.PLEASE REMEMBER TO USE CAUTION AS THIS IS NOW A LIVE ELECTRICAL UNIT.
5. press the spring switch at the top of the panel three times slowly it will beep each time and on the third press the alarm will sound, reconnect the battery.
6.on the key pad key in your normal code this will silence the alarm.
7 The Tamper light and maybe some zones leds will remain on reset using your normal code. The tamper light will stay on!
8.Return to the control box and replace the cover with the two screws.
9.at the key pad enter your code once more and the alarm will reset.
10. PEACE IS RESTORED YOUR ALARM SHOULD NOW WORK AS NORMAL.
Good luck.

Hope this helps you., December 2008
I have a veritas 8 alarm in my house, it is a new property and I want to change the settings for it as the Designated Entry Point is on the front door sensor, unfortunately due to the layout of the property we use the back door as the main entrance to the house, and therefore when we set the alarm it goes off as soon as we enter the back door. Is there any way of changing the Designated Entry Point to the back door sensor as the electrician who installed it says it can't be done and I'm not sure thats right!! If someone could give me some pointers I'd be most grateful!!

mohi, September 2008
Reply to Stephens comments - there are two sides to every story.....

S: I found all this out after moving into a house and the rip off alarm company wanted £150 to call out and reset the system

AEB: £150 is a hell of a lot of money - the average for a visit is around £55 to £75 depending if VAT is charged or not.

S: plus they wouldn't give me the engineers number as they were the same for all the systems they serviced. That sounded insecure and blackmail to me..

AEB: It would make all their systems insecure if they let you have their engineers code which in most companies are common across all their systems. Having such information would allow a person to switch off zones or cancel bell times in readyness for breaking in.

S: This was after the last serive for the previous owners where they left an 7 year battery in it when the maximum they should be replaced at is 5 years. They wanted an additional £75 to replace the battery that cost me slightly over £20!

AEB: Some Powersonic batteries do last 7 years although the average branded battery will last about 3 to 4 years. Its usual for departing owners to refuse to buy a new battery even when a new one is suggested. Again £75 for a battery is ludicrous although Im probably guessing that this figure includes an engineers visit. Dont forget that British Gas or BT do not do free home visits either.

Alarm Engineer Bristol, June 2008
For Health & safety reasons and the risk of getting sued by giving "professional advice" no alarm engineer should suggest you open the panel due to risk of electric shock.

No I dont subscribe to extortion. Engineering information is generally confidential to the trade as much as possible to reduce the possibilty of information falling into the wrong hands.

I do not agree with companies who lock panels out and then charge a fee to release it.

As to defaulting panels by Joe Bloggs some panels are not easy to programme properly after a default.

I dont blame anyone for trying to save money but there comes a point when you have to bite the bullet.

As can be seen from this site and others Im quite willing to give my time and advice free of charge and user guides free of charge. However this does not extend to engineering information - its taken me years to accumulate detailed knowledge and I use this like other alarm engineers to earn an honest living.

Alarm Engineer Bristol, June 2008
I have the same problem. I cancelled my service contract a year ago and last week the veritas alarm locked up. The Alarm company wont even talk to me until I reinstate the service contract. How can this be legal? I shall certainly be trying your reset method stephen - thanks. And to 'Alarm Engineer Bristol' you sound like you belong to the people who are blackmailing people to get have to an engieer to do this reset when it's completely unneccisary (if Stephen is right). This is clearly extortion.

hi stephen & alarm engineer,

i got my alarm fiited and was working fine untill one day i went out and set it as normal but the chime does not go off and sensors dont flash any more, so i asked the wife where is all the books the engineer left us and not to my surprise she did not think we would need them again, she does it with everything lol...so i done a search for it and read the pdf file, so now i think it has been locked by the company so they get a call out charge to reset etc.etc do you think your posting will help me stephen? and to the alarm engineer would the user code have been on the manuals my wife through out?

many thanks bigmontee....

As a follow up you can download the installation manual from:

You will need to reload the factory settings and this is an extract out of the installation manual that alarm companies don't like you to have;

Re-Loading the Factory Settings !)
From the Programming Menu, enter !). The display will
look like this.
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Unset
Tamper
Zones
Press ,. The system will chime to confirm that all the
factory settings have been re-loaded into the Non Volatile
Memory. The system will then automatically revert to the
Programming Menu.
If the Engineer code has been lost, provided it has not
been locked (see page 18) power down the system
(mains and battery). Restore power. The display will look
like this for 10 seconds.
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Unset
Tamper

You will also need to reload the engineers setting too like this;

Press ., or SLOWLY press and release the panel lid
tamper spring 3 times, before this display changes. The
factory settings have now been re-loaded into the Non
Volatile Memory.
!"Unlocking a locked Engineer code that has been lost
is subject to a minimum charge.
Re-loading factory settings will not clear the Event
Log (see page 25).
The system will bleep each time the panel lid tamper
spring is pressed and released during the first 10
seconds after power up.

The alarm is made by Texecom and a search for Texecom Veritas 8 manual on Google will find the installation file in an Acrobat format

I found all this out after moving into a house and the rip off alarm company wanted £150 to call out and reset the system plus they wouldn't give me the engineers number as they were the same for all the systems they serviced. That sounded insecure and blackmail to me.. This was after the last serive for the previous owners where they left an 7 year battery in it when the maximum they should be replaced at is 5 years. They wanted an additional £75 to replace the battery that cost me slightly over £20!

Did the work myself and alarm working perfectly.

Stephen, November 2007
If you have lost the user code on a Veritas 8 you will need an engineer to recode it for you.
