Indesit Washer/Dryer WDE12 not drying properly?

Our Indesit WDE12 washer dryer is not dring clothes properly - they come out hot, but damp, and aften not smelling especially nice. Often the machine will sit saying 0:00 for ages, but not finish the programme. Any ideas what might be broken?

My solution was - buy a new washer dryer off ebay, see this one on ebay as a washing machine, and make a small profit into the bargain.
