Alarm system rover?

my key fob stopped working so I replaced the battery. I followed all the manufactures instructions, the car will lock, but the lights don't flash, afterwards the alarm will go off, sometimes after 1 minutes sometimes after a few hours. I can't leave my car unlocked because I live on a busy street, and the garage want £85 just to look at it... Does anyone have any advice

Its a possibility that it might be the sensors on the doors, which become damp, therefore not making a circuit. I have recently come across this problem and all i did was to wipe the sensors dry, then when i locked the car the lights flashed like they are suppossed to. Try it, it might save you £85. The sensors are located near the hinges, hope this helps!
