HOTPOINT FDW20 TRIPS OUT HOUSE EARTHLEAKAGE?

Washer starts but eventually trips out the whole house eathleakage switch. After a few hours it can be started again but the same happens. I can find no sign of burning parts or water on connections inside. Is some electrical part breaking down to earth but somehow resetting itself? Note:- A reading of only a few hundred K ohms can be read with a digital meter between line and earth on mains plug after trip out. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated as machine is only 3 years old and my last one a Zanussi lasted for only 2 years! Thanks

Thanks to Robert and Steve. Trip did occur on cold wash. In fact it trips out rcd for house now everytime at first switch on of machine. I was mistaken as there are some signs of water around electrics after all. It looks like a hose problem. I did not like the look of the water joint between the pump and a plastic manifold I have renewed the 'o' ring and put some sealant on the joint. Will try it again tomorrow. Thanks again.

Hi. Sounds like it could be an element fault if the washer starts and trips when it starts to heat up.It then starts later when element is not heating and trips again when element comes on.Try a cool wash and see what happens.Hope this makes sense

Suspect your heater element in the drum. Try running it on a cycle that does not require the heater, ie rinse a couple of time, if it runs ok then you may have found your problem. Otherwise its a case of specilised repair to find the breakdown to earth which is tripping your rcd to the house.
