Setting the timin g on a Singer 507 machine?

Hi,

Can anyone advise me on setting the timing on a Singer 507 sewing machine?

Kind regards

Darren

1. Remove the vertical gear that turns the hook mechanism 2. Turn wheel toward you (needle goes down) until the needle is at the very bottom, make sure the 1st timing mark on the needle bar (which holds the needle) is just outside its housing otherwise adjust that
3. Keep turning toward you (needle goes up) until the 2nd mark is aligned with housing
4. Ensure the very edge of the hook is perfectly aligned behind the "scarf" on the needle (magnify it)
5. Gently put back the gear so as not to move it and tighten

Hello Darren,
If you have put a new needle in the machine and it is missing stitches then it will need retiming, you will need a set of allen keys, select straight stitch, take of the needle plate and take out the bobbin and bobbin case,k take off the bottom of the machgine underneath the raceway, tilt the machine back it will be easier, turn the balance wheel towards you so the needl goes all the way down and starts to go back up, look at the needle bar partway up and you will see two timing marks just as the needle bar enters the machine, as the bottom mark just disapears into the machine, stop, look at the point of the hook, it should be just above the eye of the needle, if it is not you will need to undo the two allen screws on the vertical gear underneath the raceway, you can then move the point of the hook to where it should be, tighten it up and put the parts back so you can test sew, if it sews perfectly on straight stitch try it on zig zag, if it misses stitches on zig zag you will need to retime again by moving the point either side of the needle, you will need patience because it may take several attempts, any problem e-mail me drivewithken@blueyonder.co.uk
