Bosch fridge/freezer KSV2420GB, light only dims when door closed?

The light in the fridge compartment lights up when the door is opened but when the door switch is closed it only dims and does not go out. I removed the light fitting which appeared ok, sprayed the switch contacts with both switch-cleaner and WD40 to no avail. Any ideas?

Look at all the posts ITS NOT FAULT it's a feature for a cold location to stop the freezer defrosting.

Thankyou !!
I was looking to see what that switch actually did - and you have answered -
I have the same switch - and Ive lost the manual...
I couldnt work out what it was for - what it did - or what position it should be in !!
I had the switch on - so it was staying on when the door was closed - so now I have turned it off - so the light goes off when the door is closed
My kitchen is always warm...
But it was puzzling me

KSV28320GB - I had what I thought was a fault, the internal light dimming when the door light switch operates. THIS IS NOT A FAULT.
There is a small rocker switch near the light. If this switch is "on" then the light dims when the door is closed. if the switch is "off" then the light goes off when the door is closed. this is to keep the ambient temperature "up" if the fridge is kept in a cold (eg Garage) location.
If you open the door and operate the switch there is no visible difference. the problem is when you forget what the switch is for, and think "should it be on or off?"

The Bulb is used to Regulate the Temperature of the Fridge Section. If You set the Temperature of the Fridge Lower the Bulb Will Go Out.

This isn't a fault - it's a deliberate design feature to enable Bosch fridges to operate in cold environments according to the manual. If the room in which the fridge is located has a temperature of 10 - 16 degrees Celsius, Bosch recommends that you put the switch on. I'm not sure of the physics of refrigeration - however this apparently enables the fridge to operate correctly rather than becoming too warm.

There is a switch inside the fridge which allows this to happen; flip it the other way and the light goes off completely when the door is closed. Question is: what possible use is this switch? It is not recessed, so that it is easy to turn it from off to on without knowing you've done it. Please, Bosch, let us into the secret.

I had the problem that the freezer section appeared to defrost, whereas the fridge section was okay. The KGV2822 was in an outside garage and showed the problem during this unusually cold spell (-2C). I couple of minute search on Google gave me the answer below. My thanks to KGV2822, you saved the day.

I moved the unit indoors and opened the fridge door to allow it to warm up a while. Shortly after, the compressor started, and began to share it's cooling between the freezer and fridge again. Normal service was restored.

As was previously pointed out. This is a basic design, with one compressor, and the whole thing is governed by one thermostat - which happens to be the fridge thermostat!

I never tried the technique of switching the fridge light to dim mode when the door is closed. Maybe this works, it's worth trying before lugging it indoors.

On the Bosch KGV2822 there is a switch near the bulb, the manual says to use this switch if the fridge/freezer is in a location less than eighteen degrees celcius (i.e. if kept in a garage, or a cool house etc etc).
This switch allows the internal light to be lit at a low wattage even when the door is shut (presumably overriding the thermostat if located in a cold environment).
If you keep this Fridge in an external location, the internal light must be allowed to come on when the door is shut (even if only at a lower wattage).
e.g. if you located the fridge/freezer in a garage, and during winter the internal fridge thermostat was set to say three degrees, and if the garage temperature was two degrees ambient then because there is only one compressor feeding both the fridge and freezer it will assume it has met the preset three degrees, shut down the compressor and the freezer will start to defrost. If the Fridge/freezer is located in a house it shouldn't every reach the two degrees ambient, under normal circumstances???????

Hi,

Have the same problem on a KGV3104 - did you solve it ? Would you post details.

Thanks

If it is like our fridge there is another smaller switch on the side next to the light. Switching this will make sure the light goes out when the door is shut. Not sure why anyone would put a switch in a fridge to dim the light when the door is closed though

i have same problem with my kgv2822 is this a common fault???
how did you get the switch out?
