Citroen C5 (2002); Fans (Air conditioning?) stuck on?

Does anybody know how to 'reset' the fans? They are stuck on. When ignition first turned I get some response from the controls (Fan LED display responds but the fan doesnt slow/stop). After a few seconds the Fan LED shows the FAN as off (not 'filled' in) but the fans are on full blast and the controls no longer have any response. All other controls work, eg fan direction and heat controls.
I have disconnected the battery but this hasn't done a thing.

Any help appreciated. I need to fix and sell this car. it si costing more than it is worth :-(

Drivers side near top of clutch pedal is a control unit with two green connector blocks, one with 2 wires & 2 with 4 wires. That controls the fan speed control air con auto etc.
Held by two 6mm A/F hex screws.Little awkward to get at best done with 1/4" drive socket set.
Item from citroen costs £50+vat second hand approx £30 delivered.
Just replaced mine took less than half hour.
