How can I get the data from a USB pen that has stopped working?

I am trying to get some important work that has been saved to my usb pen drive. It lights up for a shirt time whn inserted into the usb port but I am unable to access it as there is nothing to show it is attached to the computer.

Hopefully you will be able to assist as there is an important document on it that I desperately need.

Try running Norton Disk Doctor on the pen drive on a Windows 98 pc

If it is being recognised as a device, but not showing up as
a drive (e.g. in My Computer) then the following might help.
