Cds wont play .When I put in a cd it doesnt come up on the display ,this has been going on for a while and eventually it would play but of late it just wont see it at all .Might it just need to be cleaned or is that even possible ,any pointers or suggestions gratefully accepted .

Thanks for your help ,it seems all it needed was the laser to be cleaned .Bought a cleaning disc and its working perfectly since .

as I'm having exactly the same problem as you. It's a steer in the right direction but not the solution.
