My husband leaned against a freshly glossed doorframe and covered his sleeve in gloss. He got the gloss out by using white spirit or turpentine and then stuck the jumper in the washing machine. My problem now is that the washing machine absolutely stinks of turps!!! I have done many empty washes with powder on high temp, powder on low temp and still it stinks!!! My clothes are starting to take on that horrible smell too! Any ideas on how I can get rid of this smell without buying a new washing machine????

hi pamela u could try salt (salt certainly gets rid of strong onion and garlic odours on hands) whether this would work in m/c though - but hey give it a whirl anyway (oops sorry for the pun)
