burning plastic???

i have a jvc television about 5 years old not sure what model it is but its silver and comes with a base unit and speakers down each side etc..i have just moved house and i went to plug t.v in and the screen started crackling and i could smell like a buring plastic smell -what could cause this - the t.v hasnt been dropped or anything - and can it be fixed???

your tele may have accumilated a little dampness it is advisable not to use the tv. (damp is water)! it can be fixed but it is probably cheaper to buy a new one

You could have what is called a "dry joint" this is where the solder cracks around a joint. It can also lead to sparking or burning around the joint. It can be set off by moving the TV which you say you have just moved. If the TV is still working any competent engineer should be able to sort it
