How do I open the door?

Hi
I have a hotpoint washer/dryer serial No bwd129, the problem is the door will not open , it feels like the handle has become loose and is not pulling (or pushing) what it should be,
How do I open the door to repair this problem??
Thanks for your help

Like the answer above suggest, take the top off and look down the front right of the machine and you will see a rectangular plastic component. Push the top of the drum with your left hand towards the back of the washing machine and reach down with your right hand till you feel the plastic component. About 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch from the left of the plastic component and in the middle you will feel a raise part. This is the hook for the door latch. Move it left; I used my fingers and it will release the door. I took the door apart and removed the pin that the handle swivels on. It was then obvious that a the door handle was broken.

Note. Mobile phone with cameras are a great asset. Take pictures as you take it apart so the you can put it back.

Remove the top of the washer by undoing screws at the back - the top then can be slid backwards an inch or so then lifted clear. Peering down you should be able to see the door latch mechanism which hopefully you'll be able to disengage with a length of stiff wire.
