how do i replace the interior light on my kenwood KEN CJ/AL28
THANKS

My microwave is a Kenwood KEN CJS25inv, 2 years old from Curry's. To replace the bulb you must have a security Torx T10 or Draper TX-STAR T10 screwdriver bit, available from Amazon. (I bought a 42 bit set). The bulb is also available online from the 4kenwood website. This has a search procedure using your microwave model number.
Unplug the microwave and leave unplugged overnight to allow capacitors to discharge - this is very important to avoid electric shocks.
Place microwave front downwards on some cushions to avoid damage to door handle and controls.
Remove 4 screws (only two are Torx) from the outer edges of the back and one from the left side. Keep them safe. Then with a flat hand on each side of the casing pull it upwards about 15 cm. Eventually it will slide upwards, but you don't need to remove it completely, unless you want to. Locate the bulb in its holder on the left side. The bulb holder is black plastic. The holder is located on 2 pegs and held in place by top and bottom plastic spring clips. Release the holder by pushing back each clip and withdraw it. The bulb is a screw type; unscrew it and replace with the new one. Don't touch anything else except the bulb and holder.
Next slide the outer casing back into position; ensure the edges are correctly located to make a perfect fit. This can be tricky but persist, very gently.
Once the case is perfectly positioned replace the four screws around the edges of the back and the single screw in the side. Job done. Takes about 30 to 45 minutes.

I've just done it. Unplug from the mains then put the microwave face down on a surface. Unscrew the perimeter screws which hold the casing on. There are two Philips and two of these dreaded Torx T15 screws for which you will need a special bit, which you can find on the internet I guess Kenwood doesn't encourage you to open up their kit.Unscrew these four screws and there is also another Philips one on the side. The casing sides will spring out and you can gently pull the casing away from the front of the machine where it is held in place by metal tabs which slide under the front face of the machine. Once the casing is off, you will see the bulb at the top left. Slightly fiddly to unscrew and replace but not too hard. Slide the casing back on for which the metal tabs will need to be relocated by sliding under the face of the machine. Best to have two people for this task. Replace all screws. In answer to another question the turntable motor not functioning is another issue and I had to have mine professionally replaced when it stopped turning

Hi , Can somebody help me. My (MD 230V 20W G) bulb gone in kenwood microwave , the plate stop rotating. What you think , if I would change the bulb that would start the rotation or it is a different problem.
Thanks for help.

P.S. The two bottom rear screws are tamper proof security Torx (CR-VT-15) screws NOT Hex.

Torx are a 6-point star-shaped pattern where as Hex have a hexagonal shaped pattern - Check Wiki if you're not sure.

I probably echo comments below however..

Working with the mains unplugged and from the rear of the microwave, remove the top two Phillips (PH2) screws.

Still working from the rear of the microwave, remove the two Torx (CR-VT-15) screws. These Torx screws have a tamper proof security pin built into the head. I had previously purchased a set of tamper proof security bits to fit this type of head (from a popular on-line auction site for about £5) but, with care, you could use a good pair of long nose pliers for the same result.

Next remove the remaining Phillips (PH2) screw from the left hand side of the unit and, again working from the rear of the microwave, holding each side under the side flaps, carefully slide the lid/sides back towards you. It is held in position around the front microwave frame with a long pinch clip - Much like a PC lid if you have ever removed one of those.

A word of warning, with all FIVE screws removed, the lid "will" slide back - Any un-necessary force will result in a ugly crease in your shiny stainless steel cover!!

You will find the "SES E14 20watt, 240volt, 300 degrees C" OVEN bulb on the left hand side top of the microwave. It is held up side down in a black bulb holder. The bulb can be unscrewed/removed as is or, for easy access, by carefully prying the two plastic clips which keep the black bulb holder in place.

Remember, you'll need a SES E14 20watt, 240volt, 300 degrees C oven bulb - A standard bulb will not stand the oven heat.

Hi there, Yes you do have to take off the whole steel cover (some Philips screws and some security hex screws - you should be able to get a set of security bits at your local DIY shop for a couple of quid). Please remember to remove the mains plug from the socket first. There is a reason why they fit security screws on the back cover!
Once screws are out you have to pull the cover towards the back of the microwave to remove it. It can be quite stiff as the front edge is located in a sprung groove so don't worry if it takes quite a bit of a pull - you're not going to snap anything off.
With the cover off you can see the bulb near the front, behind the control panel. Simply unclip the bulb holder and remove the wires (if you have a genuine bulb which comes complete in the black holder), connect the new one and snap back into place. If your bulb doesn't come fixed in the holder then you'll need to remove the tape from around the bulb, unscrew the bulb and fit the replacement. I'm not certain but I'd guess that the tape is applied to stop condensation getting to the base of the bulb and rusting it, so applying some tape around the new one would probably be a good idea.
You can now simply replace the cover and you're good to go.
Hope this has been helpful.

REMOVE OUTER COVER. YOU WOULD REQUIRE PHILIPS SCREWDRIVER AND ALSO HEX TYPE SCREW DRIVER TO REMOVE THE 2 LOWER SCREWS.

THE BULBS SITS TO THE LEFT HAND SIDE FROM BEHIND THE UNIT.

YOU WILL NEED TO PUSH THE TWO BLACK CLIPS EITHER SIDE TO RELEASE THE LIGHT BULB HOLDER.

THE BULB YOU WILL REQUIRE IS A SCREW FIT APPLIANCE BULB (MD 230V 20W G)

Me too has got the same problem. Also the rotating base inside the microwave is not rotating now.

This microwave lasted just over one year and blew up right in front of my wife and 9 month old.

When it blew it was a very a loud bang which scared the life out of us.

This model obviously has a major fault so for the safety of consumers and the general public this model needs to be recalled back immediately!!!!!!!!!!

You have to take off the entire cover - which is a pain since some of the screws are hex and some are philips. I didn't have a hex so use a pair of pliers to gently nurse the screws until they came out. The light is on the left near the front and un-clips and then should unscrew. There was some cellotape on the bulb that I removed. I couldn't replace it with another 20w bulb but used a 25w oven bulb which seems to work just fine.

to change the light bulb in this model..

you have to take the steel panel off and simply replace the bulb.

its a mission if you don't know how and you have to have the right screw driver to undo the scrws. some screws are different then others.

the screws are the back.

Hi Pauline - did you get an answer to this one?

Graham A Keith, April 2008
Hi, Pauline,
I've just come across your question and wonder if you managed to fix it yourself. I have the same model and the bulb has just gone :O(
If you are still looking in this site and have found the solution, I'd be grateful for the answer!
Many thanks,
