How can I fix my singer model 301a?

My sewing machine has thread behind the shuttle? How do I remove the shuttle to fix the problem. I tried using tweezers.

thank You,

My singer 301A has a problem with stitches bunching up on the bottom of fabric. It does not sew any stitches, the thread is wads up and cuts the thread off from the needle. i have followed the tension instructions, and the threading instructions, placement of the bobbin the case, etc.---- nothing is solving the issue. The machine is lubed, oiled and cleaned thoroughly---- it purrs beautifully. ANY HELP- PLEASE!!!!!

Hello Carl,
If I remember your machine has a rotary hook and I would advise you not to take it out, the best way to get the thread out is to take the needle out and turn the balance wheel backwards all the time and it might unravel enought to pick it out bit by bit, a lot of patience I think is needed here.
