Its true the solonoid is under a thick metal cover.. but if yu are good & careful with an angle grinder you can cut a hole in it so that the solonoid can be got out. LOT less hassle than taking the pump off. Got the T shirt !!

metal cover is held on with "shear" screws and you will have to remove pump to gain access to them.
