the retractable cord is jammed on my kenmore vaccum model 116.27612690 in `order to free it, i have to access the screws under the foot pedal retractor-
how do I get the pedal off the unit?

To remove the cord rewind bar, pull upward from one corner. You may have to carefully pry the rewind bar out to remove it. It is snapped into place. Note the position of the spring so that it can be replaced properly when the vacuum cleaner is reassembled. Once you remove the rewind bar you can access the hidden screws underneath it.
