Hotpoint wd71 banging on spin?

My hotpoint WD71 is making a knocking and banng when slowing down from a high spin speed. I've had a look inside and it appears that the motor is actually knocking against the inside of the case.

You can even see the scratch marks where this is happening. Has anyone else seen this or know of a way to fix it?

I also have this machine, mine does the same thing- im told by the engineer that its a design fault(great!) apparently the motor is at the top and there isnt enough room for it to move when the machine is going, therefor it bangs of the side of the casing.Im also told that the latest Hotpoint washer/dryer has the motor located at the bottom where there is more room.
my machine is so noisy at times that my neighbours can here it.i love the way the washing comes out but hate the noise it makes -very dissapointing model.

Thanks for that - I guess I'll have to have a more thorough look around the bowl for spring locations.

check to make sure no springs have fallen off from the side of the bowl tot he cabinet.

check to make sure that the bowl and agitator is spinning at the same speed.
this test will determine if your brake soloniod is stuffed
also make sure the machine is level.
