How to replace battery in Braun 7515 shaver?

I want to replace the battery in my Braun 7515 shaver. It is not obvious how to open it to get to the batteries.

Batteries Plus in Phoenix, Az, has the correct 700mAh ni-cads, and they were able to attach(weld) a small extension button to the negative end of each battery, which made them fit tightly without the pin type extensions that were on the originals. So far shaver is charging and working great.

This was really useful , but I struggled to find anybody that still sell nicad cells , but eventually found this site

Most Braun shavers use AA or AAA batteries. These are often nipple versions.

My Braun 4000 series Razor uses two AA type Ni-Cd batteries with nipples.

These batteries just pop out once you remove the inner casing. Just undo the two screws in the base hidden behind two black rubber stops that just lift out and remove the shaving foil to reveal the two star screws which need to be removed. You'll need a T7 star screwdriver to do this.

Once these 4 screws are removed, lift off the head casing and then simply put the inner piece out. Very easy.

You'll see two NiCd batteries held in by their nipples by force via metal V-shaped sleeves. A small screwdriver applied to an end will simply get each battery out.

There is a small piece of sticky foam on the back of the batteries to help keep the batteries in place. But not much force is needed to lift them out.

Ni-Cd cells have a memory effect and will become useless after 2 years regardless of how you treat it due to the nature of the chemistry of these old types.

Modern batteries use Ni-MH which will last longer and if you use the latest AA 2000mAH+ types like Maplins Hybrids AA then you'll find they'll keep their charge over night. So you'll get far longer out of them per charge.
Or use normal Ni-MH if you can find these hybrid/Stay charged types.

The old AA Ni-Cd types were typically only 700mAH so you'll get a lot more time between charges.

To replace the batteries with non-nipple types, just get a piece of kitchen foil and fold them over and put on each end to ensure there is a tight fit against the metal sleeves.

If you forget the polarity of the batteries, then look on the black casing as there is a - and + marked on it to remind you. :-)

Have fun.

There may be an issue with the mAh rating. From what I see on all of the websites offering Braun shaver battery replacements, 1650mAh is stated. A 2000mAh battery might not be compatible. I tried 2300mAh batteries in my 7526. After installation and before charging, the shaver functioned (low battery was indicated though). I went ahead and charged it up. After 60 minutes, the cycle was complete, but then the shaver wouldn't function on the batteries at all--as if they were dead. But doing a circuit check on the batteries showed they had indeed charged up. I suspect that there's something about the mAh level that is incompatible.

I got the same problem. After charged, the battery will be discharged very soon. Any idea? I am not sure if its smart logic has anything to do. Or, can we reset the logic?

You can find batteries online at:

Dear Luis Carvalho, the extraction of the batteries it´s explained at your shaver manual. See this PDF online at page 11 (english) or 19 (spanish).

http://www.service.braun.com/line/SH/S5493/S5493_13_MN.pdf

The problem is that this kind of shaver don´t offers replacement of the batteries. Once the batteries ends the shaver will be recycled or only works connected to 120V-220V power plug.
But you can try desolding the old batteries. I think will be a AA or AAA standard batteries of 1.2 Volts, but it don´t have +/- poles such as you see in any alkaline batterie. It will have 2 soldering blades for +/-.

If you want to do this, extract the old batteries and search a similar NiMH battery in any local electronic parts store, or try to solder any standard NiMH battery (batteries for digital cameras, MP3...)

It´s all I can do for you.
Adios, buenos dias.
