Banging Boiler?

I have a Glow-Worm energysaver 40e boiler, and when the burner is turning off there is a massive banging in the boiler that shakes the whole house. Anybody any ideas as to what is causing this. Had some advice from a friend who is a plumber and he thinks this is a common fault with the burners on these boilers, and that i should replace the whole thing. Any advice appreciated.
Thanks

It's the boiler over run protection timer, its probably burnt out!, near your hot water tank you will see the wires from the pumps going to a white junction box in the lid of that junction box is a timer that runs when the signal from the thermostat is removed i.e when the tank hits temperature this timer will run the pump for a couple of minutes more to take away the boiling water from the boiler, it is this water that is causing the banging as it is being heated and expanded but with nowhere to go.

Sounds like sludge in the heat exchanger, system is probably full of sludge. Get this confirmed by a registered gas installer, the banging is the heat not being able to disipate, Heat exchanger will eventually crack.

Get a registered gas installer to look at it.
