nissan x-trail cd player jumping?

My cd player jumps for about 15 minutes every time i start the car. It seems to be ok once its warmed up though. Why? and how can it be fixed, other than giving it a damned good slap ~(i've tried that!)

I have a 2004 X-Trail which had a cd jammed inside. Prior to this the cd jumped or continually went through load/eject mode. I read "Peet´s" e-mail of 2008, dismantled the unit according to his listed web site, took off the lid, and discovered the jammed cd. The gummed paper attached showing artists had melted in the spanish heat and caused the problem. I eventually removed cd, and cleaned laser head with pure alcohol. Now the unit works perfectly. Thanks Peet.

hi i have just been reading everyone's comments on their CD players jumping while cold. This is a fairly common thing with a few different players out there once they get a little age or sometimes the conditions can bring it on earlier. the 2 most common things are 1) there is a small amount of lubrication on the worm screw for the laser and also for the small rods that it slides along, if this has dried out then the laser has to do a full trip forward and back to pick up the build up of lubrication at each end, it then after a while of moving warms the lubrication up and starts to move smoothly again instead of juttering across the slides. 2) the laser has aged and needs the voltage to be tweaked (be careful when doing this and check manufacturers specs for voltage limits) on the small circuit board on or near the laser you will see a small potentiometer (it looks like a small component with a cross or plus sign in it for a phillips head screwdriver) turn this clockwise but minutely if you increase the voltage to much you burn out the laser. The only other real cause for this fault will be a component somewhere to do with the laser that has failed but will start working once it is hot. Is there anyone out there that can give my all the fascia measurements for a genuine 2004 x trail CD player? thanks Pat

How do I retrieve my ipod which has been eaten up by the cassette slot in my 2005 nissan xtrail cd?

I also have a 2004 xrail with a factory fitted clarion 6cd changer/radio/cassette.
As with other posts, mine also jumps/skips when unit is cold, even in the summer! I contacted Clarion, and they say it's not normal, but it seems common to me!
If cleaning the laser doesn't work, there are SOME fascia adaptors available, from Celsus, (celsusice.co.uk) and DVB. They convert the hole left in the dash to a single (Celsus) or double din (DVB) hole to suit an ordinary car stereo. There are wiring adaptors available (harnesses) and also steering column control connectors if needed. I may be pursuing this if I can't sort the Clarion out. But the price soon adds up, £25-£50 for fascia adaptor, £100 for new head unit, and £10-20 for harnesses.

Is it worth it? Yes, if you have a standard car stereo anyway. Yes, if you want iPod connectivity (on new stereos).

Mine does it to on a 2003 x-trail on my 6-cd changer unit. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Danny Walker, May 2009
My Nov 04 XTrail has always been reluctant to play CDs when the car has been cold for a while. Has recently refused to play CDs at all and shows error message "check disc". Followed the advice here and fixed the problem. There was a piece of "hair" from a felt pad near the laser that had come loose and was getting in the way.

Good day, my xtrails radio allso jumped, then only played CD on side of the speakers, now it display "Check Disk", Solution: I used the following site to remove my xtrails radio, http://www.fitaudio.com/, then removed the top cover, cleaned the laser head with 100% alcohol, dry with air[hair dryer will work] close up and it solves the proble. This will only work if the laser head is not damaged. Will see in time if the cold jumping problem is gone or not!

I have exactly the same problem, my 2004 x-Trail jumps for the first 15-20 mins from cold then works OK. Dealer quotes 250+vat repair or £500+vat replace- rip off! Does any other head unit fit?

Let Rip, April 2008
Mine does the same, appears to be a fault with this unit?
I have tried using a cleaning disc (the ones with the little brushes attached) which may have helped a bit but it does still jump sometimes when cold.

G, February 2008
I don't know how to fix it but mine does exactly the same - I can't actually get a cd to play until the car has warmed up and this normally takes half an hour!
