This usually means you have no connection to the internet. Make sure your modem is on and working. If it's a dial-up modem, be sure to hear the strange telephone noises start going.
If you have an ADSL or cable broadband internet modem, make sure all the lights are flashing on it.
if all this is happening, check the connections between your modem and your computer.
