How can I fix my Shinco SDP-1720A Portable DVD Player?
Has been reliable up to now but may have a fair bit of dust and particle matter inside. When "Loading" , it tries and then flags "No Disc".
In order to see what might be happening I keep the load flap open and then press the "closed" clip with a narrow screw driver to initiate loading. Thsi requires some wiggling of the screw driver each time so it be that this contact is marginal now as a result of use but I suspect this is not the issue. With no DVD inside, I can get the unit to attempt load (optical unit scrolls from outer to inner position, laser red light blips and main motor spins up). With a DVD placed on the spindle the same happens apart from no spin of the disc at all. On one occasion I got it to move about 1/8 of a revolution but most of the time I dont think it even tries to rotate when a DVD is on it. In any case I'd be amazed if its a case of loss of motor torque as a DVD disk is incredibly lightweight. Any ideas ?
ps I dont think this is the flat ribbon on the carriage.
