Try a couple or three washing cycles without dishes in but with the wash tablet. Try the new Finish Quantum tab - virtually granule-free and made a difference to my machine.

Don't run the machine without salt in the converter. If the particles are like a sandy grit its usually the converter thats starting to break up a bit.
