My Hotpoint wd860 ultima gushes out water from the soap drawer when its in spin cycle, why is it doing this and how can i fix the problem without havint to call out an engineer?

you have a drainage problem, filter blockage or sluggish pump or seized again because of blockage,At the point just BEFORE when the drum spins water should have ALREADY drained/pumped out in your case the speed of the drum throws the water outwards via centrifugal force the only WAY OUT is the soap draw.clean out from the sump hose right through to the drain hose.
IF YOUR WASHER CONNECTS TO A U/TRAP BEND UNDER SINK WHERE DRAIN HOSE ATTACHES CHECK HOLE IS NOT BLOCKED MOST NEW HOUSES ARE CONNECTED THIS WAY FOR SPEED/LESS PIPEWORK TO SHOW OUTSIDE (CHECK HOLE FIRST you may strike gold and solve problem with out continuing any further.
