How can I (or is it worth doing) fix the CD player that has stopped playing? The drawer goes in & out & there's much clicking inside the machine before an ejection. I've used a cleaning disc to no effect so perhaps the scanner has died.

The clicking could be caused by a couple of things. The laser could be beyond help by cleaning, in which case you will need to decide whether to spend the cash
You could also try checking the condition of any rubber belts inside.
Finally, at the end of the laser mechanism travel you should find a small switch. It is worth cleaning and possibly re-tensioning this.
