Ariston Microgenus 23 MFFI boiler - only tepid water?

Hi, we are in rented accomodation - landlord is a nightmare. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas why this boiler is not giving us hot water anymore. Through the summer months it has been fine (in fact blissful - i like hot showers) however since the weather has turned so has the temperature of the showers. At best it is tepid, sometimes bearly that. I don't know what to do really.

The boiler was not installed by CORGI reg plumber I am fairly sure (landlord cuts all corners). I know legally he requires to provide a safety certificate however I don't wish to get into a big fight with him. I haven't the time at the moment.

So... any ideas what is causing this problem? I will call in a plumber if it is likely to be a fault and take it off the rent, however I am nervous that the problem is in fact just that this is an appalling boiler and no mending will help.

Any advise would be super as I really am beginning to lose my mind!

Diverter valve has failed. Check your nearest radiator when running hot water only. It'll be warm/hot when it should be cold.

Hi I am having the same problem. I have found that if i knock the control panel the boiler will kick in.I have been told that there is a problem with the printed circuit board.A dry joint or something like that.

These boilers are decent enough and generally very reliable. The cold water temperature coming into the house is a few degrees colder in winter time and the boiler can only heat at a certain rate, the faster the water runs through it the cooler it will be. Check the hot water thermostat on the boiler is turned up full (second dial at bottom left hand side) Try slowing down the amount of water running through the tap or shower giving the boiler a chance to heat it more. It should heat the water at around 2.1 gallons a minute with a 35 degrees temperature rise. If it cannot achieve that the gas pipe is probably undersized.

Hi,
I would recommend that you call a plumber (make sure you give the receipt to the landlord, but make a copy first). Check your boiler pressure. I oticed that when mine is low so is the temperature of the water. I recently had no heating or hot water and in the really cold spell with two kids under thw age of 8 it wasn't very nice. It turned out that there are two little sensors inside (i think the plumber called tham thermisters). It could be those. I can't say for definate as i am not a plumber or heating engineer. (although i wish i was with the money that some of them charge).
Hope you get it sorted really soon
