How can I fix my Panasonic SA-HT80 "Take out disc" message?

Ok, so I had the very common problem of the player not reading any DVDs anymore und I (hopefully) fixed it using the instructions given here
http://www.howtomendit.com/answers.php?id=14290

However, now that I've reassembled the player all it does is the following:
The tray closes, then all 5 disc lights start to flash like disco and there's a Message "Take out disc". Then the tray opens again.
Of course there's no disc inside. I've taken it apart 2 times since then to see if I missed something in reassembling but I couldn't find anything.

The big problem is, that I can't use the Player at all because it won't let me chance the playing mode. In the past I've used it as a stereo to my computer but now it's just plain useless.
Please, if you have any idea let me know!

Unplugging the green wire from the disc play physically enabled me to by pass it and use the rest of the options

Me too!!! mine was from mid 2009 as well. Maybe Panasonic sends out some secret radio frequency that tells its machines to stop working so we'll have to buy new ones. =)

Quite shocking how many of these are from October 2009. Same problem! No solutions?

OK guys I managed to get it to play everything but discs. Just unplug all the cables connected to the drive, mainly the green power one towards the back. Basically disables the disc function but lets you use it for vcrs/xboxs/computers and the radio also works. For me, back where I started, but as they say, nothing ventured nothing gained.
hope this helps.

I'm having the "exact" same problem. I think it has something to do with the disc reader not being in sync with the tray... or something. when the tray slides back it repositions the laser, but I have no idea how to calibrate that. That's my best guess. Anyone have any ideas to fix this

I have the same exact problem, I hope someone out there has a solution for us.
