If a 2.5 hard disk stops responding. Does that mean it is dead?

I Have umplugged the pocket HDD player at the wrong time which caused the hard drive to stop.(I don't hear a sound any more and it is no longer recongnized.) I would really appreciate it someone tells me what to do. Is there some hope to get it to work again. By the way, I fiddle with all kinds of electronics and software. Thanks a million

Okey doke, not a smooth move by unplugging it whilst it was doing bits and bobs. But all is not lost....yet anyway.

First and foremost I am guessing that this pocket HDD is USB controlled. Does the system make any noise when connecting the drive up? Have you checked Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management under the Control panel?

It could very well be that the partition has popped its clogs, so may very well need a reformat if it appears as Unrecognised
