how can i fix my x-box,thompson dvd?

not old at all slow and lots of read errors is their something i can replace on unit to make it read better ,problem is because the dvd has its own proprietary power....help

Well.. first some information about the x-box and that drive.
The thompson drives are notorious for having problems, i have one sitting here that wont read anything. the problem is. even if you got another thompson drive, or any other from an x-box, it would not work in it either, without a mod chip installed in the unit. each dvd drive on an x-box is as far as i know is encoded to that specific machine. the mod chip would allow it to work because it would bypass the encoding. hope this gives you a little insite to the drive. maybe try cleaning it with a DVD cleaning disk, who knows.
