My trimmer won't run McCulloch MT270?

Hi,
I started finding this strimmer difficult to sart and would not run at full throttle, as if the choke was on. Thought it might be mixture problem.
Tried adjusting what i assumed was the carburettor air / mixter screws, now will not start / run at all.
Is there a starting point for these screws ie. fully closed then 1 1/2 turns out ?
Any help would be great.

Many Thanks

yeah - I was repairing one and, even though I had bought new gaskets - looking at the internals - I realized it was such crap I could see all the bits that would fail. It was so crude - almost like it had been assembled ina shed not a factory - almost 'bodged' (but this was its state from the 'factory'). I thought...and incredibly I was calm...I thought this is a big load of trouble, just dump it and get a proper one. which I did.

I work on an awful lot of these machines and identifying the parts is key , the carbs are more often walbro and parts are readily available , the main dealer for mcculloch is Simmonds saws near Cambridge uk they can source most old stuff , modern stuff is made by Husqvarna. and has been for some time

what should the fuel mixture be

I, too had exactly the same problem. I found that the fuel inlet tube was disintegrating and letting air in so that the carburettor wouldn't suck. Replaced that, (bit fiddly getting at the filter on the end of the old tube, but a piece of bent wire fishes it out) and everything seems to run ok now.

hi mate, i have one of these as well, it had exactly the same problem. i found if you screw the screws all the way in, then 2 full turns out it should run. then its just a case of starting it and letting it warm up, then full throttle and see what it does. mine was running but was very smoky(it wasn't the mix) and a bit gut less so i screwed the left hand screw in a tiny bit (while still running) and try full throttle again. if it is still gutless, screw left hand screw in a tiny bit more. if it still gutless repeat this process. that should do it. ALSO IT MIGHT BE WORTH EMPTYING THE FUEL AND RUNNING IT ON NEAT PETROL FOR A LITTLE WHILE TO BURN UP ALL THE EXCESS OIL IN THE CARB AND CYLINDER. hope this helps and please let me know how you get on. my email is: carpkid14'googlemail.com. mcculloch is pure scrap - never ever buy one (small engine mechanics point of view). my guess is that the carb needs new diaphrams and gaskets. i'm working on one now and parts are near impossible to get!!!

Hi. Mine starts on full choke but wont run for long when i put it to half choke, its like a fuel starvation or something any ideas ?

i have just had the same problem with mine screw them right in, turn the screw one full turn out, prime the strimmer about five times then try and start it with out choke, with your finger on the trigger but make sure the plug is clean,
