How can I fix a retractable cord on electrolux cannister model?

The cord on my electrolux won't retract anymore, can I open the back iend up somehow and rewind it?

My cord broke a few days ago, and after a little fiddling around I gave up on the delicate approach and just pulled the cord firmly and it released. It seemed to have got caught on itself inside the machine, and once I had pulled it out, it then wound back on to the loop as it should have done.

My husband used a little WD-40 and it works great now.

My retractable cord quit working also. Hope someone has some help....I can't even figure out how to open the case.

No Barbara I can't help but I just want to say that my retractable cord on my Electrolux won't work either so I'd be interested if you get an answer to your question.
