How can I test my coil and fix my gas chain saw?

I have a gas Craftsman 14 in chain saw- 8 years old. I have the gas flowing -(it was blocked) but it still won't start. No spark to the plug and I changed the plug. How do you test for output from the coil-better yet could it be the coil? I grounded the plug to the cylinder case and cranked it, but no spark. Thank you in advance.

Art, it may just need a slight adjustment, but first check your kill switch. Pull the wire running to the switch and try to se if you have spark. If not, slip a 3x5 index card between the coil and flywheel. Then retighten coil. that should giveyou the spacing to get a spark.
