Sony VAIO Z1WA start up and disc problem?

VAIO Z1WA
This message appears when I turn on :

Warning Immediately back up your data and replace your haed disc drive A failure is imminent
Press F1 to Continue

When I press F1 the prompt to start in Safe Mode etc starts, which ever option I choose it takes me back to the warning message above after a minute or so of attempted booting

Sony have suggested replacing the drive, would you agree
They have said I could install the drive on a desk top and this should allow me to recover my data

If you agree with this how do I remove the drive, I have tried to open the computer up and after removing all the screws can only lever the front section open a little and it is being held together around the keyboard area and by the lid pillars

Hope you can help

Thanks

sonys are NOT very good- anyway are you sure that you havent a virus/spyware/malware infection? there are disc utilities which you can download from net to help you solve your problem (these uitilites will access your HDD via USB or CDROM) it is a good idea to remove the HDD (look where its located, usually under plastic held by a few screws) then attach to a desktop pc via USB or whatever to read/backup the contents, after you can insert back into laptop & use recovery disc or disc utilities or whatever to solve your problem.
