my computer shows an error message when i start it up and then it goes into

Hi Dustin - when your computer is just starting you will see an option at the bottom of the screen to press the F10 key to enter the restore. If you miss it the first time just restart your computer and be ready the second time. HP has the restore files in a partition on your hard drive and it "usually" will fix itself. Hope this helps!
