Polaroid DVD player will not turn off close captions why?

When you put the dvd in the close caption comes on and I can not get it to turn off. I have read the manuel but nothing I do is right. How do you turn off close caption, On the set up screen it shows it as being off. Is there something I am not doing? It is a Polaroid DVD Player PDV-0701A model# BT41DG

It seems that this Polaroid PDV-0701A is specifically designed to always play captions no matter what. Even if I go into the language setup of the movie, turn subtitles off, then play the movie, it still shows the captions.

I actually have to play the movie, THEN go back to the menu and into the language setup, and tell it NO subtitles, then resume the film, for it to take them off.

It's ridiculous and I have told Polaroid that they need to fix this for future models.

I have noticed the same problem--but not on all DVDs. In fact, it seems that the captioning comes on automatically around 40-60% of the time. However, I've noticed that most of the time, if you go to the Menu > Setup > Languages on the DVD menu, set the captioning 'OFF', then highlight "Return to Movie [Episode]", you will usually go right back to where you left off without having to start over and find your place. Apparently this is a problem with the software specific to Polaroid DVD players.

you have to turn on the menu on your movie and turn off the captions there. i had the same problem. you have to turn it off every time you put in a new dvd.
