Can i use liquid detergent in my Bosch machine instead of powdered soap?

new to this..., November 2012
Thank you very much for the answer to this problem, it worked great with a plastic cable tie,

I just hope it keeps clear for a while, but at least I now know what to do thanks to the kind folk on here

To get ours working again I removed the drawer, used a plastic cable tie to clean the four holes and water dispenser above the drawer, sprayed with Cillit Bang. Then washed the drawer, open the flap which says "max" as the syphon effect is usually stopped by the small hole and compartment underneath getting clogged.

Should be fixed then!!

Pull out the detergent/conditioner drawer, and using a small mirror locate the four 3mm square holes from where water should run to "tip" the syphon. Looking from l to r, they are in the centre. Push a ten inch plastic"tie" up the two holes furthest from you, and then pull it out. The teeth on the tie will scour the mould from the inlet

The Solution: Top up the softener tray with extra water so that it is up to the 'max level' mark.

As mentioned by Dan, the softener tray works by a siphon action.

The reason the tray does not empty is that not enough water is added by the machine during the softening cycle, so that the machine does not completely fill the softening tray; only when the softening tray is filled beyond the 'max' mark does the siphon action works. A partially filled tray will never empty - it's impossible due to the siphon.

The reason that not enough water is added to the tray during the softening action is that the water inlet of the machine is partial blocked (you can try to fix that) but it is simpler to just added more water to the conditioner tray.

Thus, the easiest way to ensure that the softener tray empties every time (after adding the softener to the softener tray of course) is to top up the softener tray with extra water, top it up to the 'max level' line (keep a bottle of water by the machine). That way, even if only a little water is added to the softener tray during the softening cycle by the machine it is enough to trigger the siphon action and the tray will empty!

Works for me every time, and no need to remove any parts - I used to take the tray out, clean it, scrub the outlet holes that fill the tray etc, but they used to gum up again quite quickly!

Hope that helps

Cleaning the holes above the softner compartment using wire worked for our machine too!

Great thanks for the advise. I have had the same problem. Now sorted. I was able to unblock by the small holes above the softener dispenser. I put some fine wire up the holes. Now my washer is working again. But just had a telling off from my other half for not turning off the electric. Whoops!!

I have just solved this problem on our bosch machine. At the conditioner stage of wash water runs in via the solenoid valve into the top spray compartment above detergent/conditioner draw. Two small holes above the conditioner compartment should pass water into the draw, thus diluting and then syphoning liquid into drum.I found the two small square holes where blocked, with what looked like black mould, causing the water to take the easier route accross into the detergent draw inlets. The holes can be cleared by pushing a lenth of wire up into the holes with the draw out, pushing and pulling in an attempt to clear the channels.I also removed lid of machine and removed the two cold water rubber hoses from the top rear of water inlet camber/draw( held with spring clips, just squeeze with pliers) and pushed wire in from both ways to clear muck in inlets. Now all is OK. This build up of mould/muck is probably caused by low temp washes ,might be a good idea to run very hot washes now and again, allowing the hot inlet water to help keep things clear,no good on late machines as only cold fill.hope this helps

Fabric conditioner is taken from the detergent tray by siphon action. Most likely flexible siphon pipe is blocked. Remove machine top, identify the pipe coming from the softener compartment, detach and clean.
