I just fixed this on my 1998 Megane coupe e 1.6 8v. It's because the earth has gone bad on the wiper motor. I just got a piece of wire, stripped it both ends taped one end of the wire to the body of the wiper motor and i clamped the other end to the negative terminal on the battery. It now works on the stalk like it should do and i got a blast in the face from the blower :-)

I had the same problem on our megane mk1, took motor out & cleaned as suggested by other contributors to this forum & hey presto! working as if brand new.
45 mins is all it took.
Many thanks to all & have a great NEW YEAR.

Got a new motor from the scrapyard for £15. Same problem recurred after about 3 months.
Tried Ragdollsusan's solution on the old motor and it's going like a sewing machine!
Thank you :)

Hi im having the same problem. My wipers work when they want to. i can hear the clicking noise when they stop, but nothing moving. The wipers are not bent.
Im a bit hopeless when it comes to cars, and the local garage said they have no idea and want a fortune to replace the motor (even though it works sometimes and i can still hear it going.
any ideas people?

Thank you Ragdollsusan, I found your method sorted this problem for me on my 2002 megane coupe. It was very easy, and has saved me potentially hundreds of pounds.

Cheers!

My Magane Fidgi windscreen wiper stopped working , no intermittent wipe, no normal or fast wipe. Remove the wiper motor unit from under windshield air scoop aunder windscreen. 3 screws of 10mm and spindle nut of 13mm. Remove the wiper unit. Disconnect the latched plug to the wiper unit.

Unclip the plastic cover to the gearbox (4 clips) and remove it. Clean excess grease from inside of the brass contact ring for the autopark, check the contacts are touching the ring. Also check the brass strip that makes an earth to the aluminium body when it is assembled. Open slightly the brass connector strips on the contacts to the plastic gearcase / electrical cover.... reassemble and viola... works fine.

30 minute job and only a screwdriver and two spanners required. Saves £200 plus.

hi i have a 1997 renault megane coupe 2.0 16v,my window wipers and everything else works, but my heaters dont work tho, theres noise coming from where the heater fan is and it clunk clunks, any ideas thanks

had exactly the same problem as above and sorted it with the new earth solution. all i did was strip a small section of plastic casing off the earth wire and looped a length of wire around the earth. i put a small blob of solder to the join and taped the whole thing up, has worked a charm! wipers and fan working correctly. only problem now is an issue with a knocking coming from fan when switching from recirculate to normal fan. sounds like the servo or motor that switches the controlling mechanisum for the fan. does anyone have an idea on a remedy?? it only knocks for about 10 seconds then stops but worries me that it may be wearing or potentialy burning out a servo or motor. any help would be much appreciated. :)

All it is you have lost the earth to the heater and the wiper moters . take off the black trim above the battery and cut the black wire going into the wiper moter stip the two ends and twist together and fit connector then fit a cable from the other side of the connector and bond it to the car body with crimp lug and bolt .this is the easy way and it works

I seem to have lost use of reverse lights in my 57 plate megane 1.5dci and back wiper doesn't work when in reverse and wipers are on, can anyone help?

Thanks to all contributors!

Same fault as above - no wipers on the column switch, blowers and wipers on the blower switch!

Decided to cut black wire and put in new earth to the motor, worked like a charm. Then found blower wasn't working! Connected the now defunct earth (from loom) to the new earth - bingo!

Who designed this wiring circuit, suggests I had another fault on the blower circuit. Strange how the connection appeared to support the blower but not the wiper motor.

I have dug around and found this solution to the problem. Go to the web site below:

I have now got my wipers working as normal. The fan still does not work on mine, replaced the blown fuse only for it to blow again straight away. Not as bothered about that however, the wipers were the important part, which now work properly after about 4 years. No information was found back then when it originally happened and local garage had no idea. Can't believe that just a foot of wire would have fixed it all that time ago.

I have had the same problem for years now on my '98 Megane hatchback. Local garage have never found what the problem was and Renault wanted a fortune to just plug it into a computer to check so we have left it. Passes MOTs ok as they work in a round about sort of way and the washers squirt still, not as Renault wanted them to though.

did you sort it?

JC, February 2008
this is a very common fault with the megane. what you have to do is locate the Negative wire on the wiper motor (usually black)... cut it and attach the end from the motor to the chassis or negative terminal of the battery... that sorted my problem out

hi,

the exact same problem has started on my megane coupe '98 model last nite. The heater works the window wipers and the heater doesnt work with anything else. have u found a solution? i think it must be an electrical problem! i am an electrician but dont know much about cars, however, i am going 2 have a go at it.
