Kenwood KA-5040R Audio amp remains in standby?

This is an audio amp that remains in the standby mode forever when it is first powered up. If i shut the power up/down several times it suddenly kicks into normal mode and all works ok......until the next time I try and power it up. I go through the same routine again to get it working. Any ideas?

Replace C49 = 0.47F super cap
Or you could try to charge C49 to 5V when removed from the board and then solder it back.
You need to disassemble the front panel; C49 is located on the largest PCB near to a microcontroller chip.

Just curious if it operates correctly using the remote. If so then could be a faulty switch contact.
