Currently having the same problem....So I'm taking the whole thing apart with a torque screwdriver that fits the dyson....there is very thick dust inside the cylone part and needs jetting out with water (leave for 3-4 days to dry though) also the filter that lives above the motor - that I've had to prize open with a flat screwdriver - is also caked in a thick layer of dust - this cannot be washed and has to be scraped off....
