WM64 motor brushes?

My Hotpoint WM64 keeps refusing to spin, every time it is the motor brushes, first one was jammed in its holder, so I replaced them, after 4 washes (!!) it did it again, only this time the brush and the brass holder were melted into the plastic holder.. its the brush nearest the drum each time, what's wrong?, is there a ballast resistor somewhere in the circuit that controls voltage to the brushes?,, ta frustrated pete,, p.s. I had a hotpoint in 1976 that lasted 15 years before it broke, this one 2 years! used once every two weeks(don't ask)
