MY LG RH7500 DVD RECORDER WONT PLAY CDs?

I have contacted LG and they wasnt very helpful with a repair centre in Scotland which has quoted a min of £81 plus cost of parts + packaging costs. It could be a problem with cd lazor
Any advice please?
