Why Wont my car radio keeps its memory?

I have a 1992 VW Passat. When I set the station memory and then turn the ignitin off for more than about 30 seconds the radio has lost all settings. The radio is brand new after my last one was stole. The last one had the same problem. How can I rectify this?

Try switching the live(+ve) two feed wires around. usually cures the problem

There are 2 feeds to a radio, 1 for main power that turns off with ignition and the 2nd one has 12 volts all the time providing the battery is not disconnected, it seems that the permanent 12 volt is broken
