my boiler pressure is too high how can i reduce it?

I have shut down the boiler to replace a broken valve on a radiator and now the heating on my ikon boiler will not work. the pressure on the boiler gauge is at 4 and is banging and throwing water out of the overflow pipe. How can i reduce the pressure and get the heating working again?

undo a radiator bleed valve and let pressure drop or use a drain off point on your system
