problems with my sons laptop?

my son has just purchased a used toshiba laptop but it will not display the @ symbal when he presses @ button the " appears can you help

need to change the keyboard/language from USA to UK english. Bottom right on your pc screen you will see a small blue square. This shoiuld have the letters EN in it.

Ok, i'm no expert but it seems your keyboard is configured to the US. I used to own a Ti-994a many years ago and the @ was (shift 2) and the " was (shift '). If you are on XP, then you can check your keyboard settings by going to the control panel and clicking on the regional settings icon. Failing that, try opening notepad and see what symbol comes up when pressing shift 2. As i said, i'm no expert but i'm just trying to help. If this info is no good then forgive me (LOL)
