How can I fix my sons nintendo ds?

My son's nintendo ds lite has broken, the right hand hinge has snapped off but the console seems to be still working. Can this be fixed?
Is this something that we can do at home or would it have to be sent off? I have seen adverts for replacement cases, is this my problem?! How easy is it to do or am I going to make things worse?!

You can buy replacement cases from various places (inc ebay) ds = £10, Ds Lite £18 inc the Y screwdriver you will need to undo the case.

If you are feeling brave then have a go, if not various companies offer to recase for about £25 - £30
