how can i fix my whirlpool 6th sense washing machine?
not got the handbook for my washing machine and it's not working.
it's a whirlpool 6th sense and when i press start it makes a series of clicking sounds then the sound of the drain pump kicks in as it does at the beginning of every wash. then the door locked light flashes and it stops.
sounds like it's not registering that the door is shut properly but to be honest that's just guess work from someone who hasn't got a clue (me) but i then have to turn it off completely until the door releases otherwise it stays locked.
i just managed to get it to perform a drain cycle with the door open. the door locked light stayed permanently lit throughout and then turned off when the door release clicked.
like i say it sounds like the sensor to me but even if it is, what do i do? appreciate any suggestions.
When I start it, after removing left over water, the machine try to kick start, but the door light keep flashing and the door dose not lock at all...

Hi my whirlpool 6th sense keeps stopping at spin and then this little red square that looks like a telephone touch pad comes up and it won't go into spin. I have checked that it is balanced. Any ideas as to what the problem could be?
Cheers

Guys, same problem, door open sign is on and won't allow me to wash. If i slam the door ridiculously hard it sometimes works but only occasionally. I have replaced the interlock, door seal(as it as a hole in it), and brushes and still the same problem.
Any clues out there???????
Thanks guys.

I have just had the same issue with our machine and I can say the Brushes on the motor were down to the end - replaced at cost of 15.95 and machine 100% working - brilliant
BTW - changing the Motors brushes was very easy - just remember to snap the little plastic retainers off the brush holder before fitting the unit - this keeps the brush in place when in the packet as its spring loaded -
Took longer to clean the dirt build up behind the machine than it did to change the brushes
Many thanks

Had the same thing on mine. Removed motor, cleaned copper bowl but no good. I guess replacing brushes is next option.

whirlpool awm 8103/s
door light flashes at start of cycle when motor is supposed to kick in.
just fixed it thanks to a post about the motor brushes.
the brushes didnt look that bad but the copper spindle that they touch was black and dirty.
i simply cleaned mine with some steel wool until you could see the coper colour again and hey presto, sorted.
if you have a multimeter handy you can also test across the brushes for continuity to confirm there is a circuit.
motor was easy to get out once the single bolt was removed but beware, it is heavy if you are lay on your side and the insides of the case can be quite sharp.
also, mind your fingers when removing/refiting the belt.
i put mine on the same way you thread a bicycle chain onto its sprockets.
thanks again to whoever you were for the tip.
a great help and saved me a fortune in wrong parts.
cheers

The same thing has just happened to my machine tonight and i was wondering how you got on and how did you fix it. It would be great if could let me know just before i phone for a service man and get another unwanted bill....

Definate repair on my machine was the motor brushes. They cost about £20. Hope this helps anyone out who has the same grief. Cheers.

I too have this fault, at switch on the timer clunks round, it pumps out any water in the machine (lasts 2-3 secs), It then begins to fill. This only lasts about 2 -3 secs then stops with door open light flashing. Am 99.9% door switch is ok. If left for a couple of mins it tries again but only once. This is the same for all wash cycles. Tried on gentle spin and it did the same. Now strongly suspect the motor (which should run ( i think) at the point of faliure). Ran out of time last night so will investigate further tonight and update accordingly.

Only way to test interlock is to replace with a known good unit.
They arent too dear, round a tenner online.
