How to replace a back axle on a ford transit?

I have been told that I need to replace the back axle on my ford transit van 01 plate LWB. I have the basics, is there any i really need to know before going ahead and having a go?

if your not changing the leaf springs then just undo the handbrake cable, brake hoses, load sensing valve, propshaft (if its rear wheel drive). undo the u-bolts but have the axle supported cos its ruddy heavy. if undoing to leaf springs easiest way is to jack the back up on the chassis till the spring shackles are vertical, undo the fronts then lift it so wheels are just off ground then undo the rears
